“In an age of dangers, the Government of Hungary considers the security of the Hungarian people as its top priority. In parallel with the procurement of modern military technology, the organizational transformation of the armed forces is also under way. In this work, we have now reached the threshold of a new era. The personnel of the Hungarian Defence Forces must be renewed as well”, said Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky at his annual assessment conference held in the Budapest Whale in the morning of Tuesday, 17 January.

The Skylark procurement project has come to an end

Pro Patria Electronics Ltd., a Hungarian military electronics service provider, held a project completion ceremony of the Skylark-1 LEX and Skylark-3 unmanned aerial reconnaissance systems’ delivery on Tuesday, December 6th, at the Stefánia Palace - Honvéd Cultural Centre in Budapest. At the event, Major General Ferenc Kajári, Group Chief of the Military National Security Service Reconnaissance Group Headquarters, praised the military force development project carried out in cooperation between the Budapest-based company and the Israeli defence company Elbit.

On Tuesday, 28 September Dr. Gáspár Maróth, MoD State Secretary for Defence Policy and Development and Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi PhD, Commander, Hungarian Defence Forces received Major General Steven Stivers, Assistant Adjutant General, Ohio National Guard on an official visit.

During his visit to Lithuania – on 21st September – Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces, also visited the Šiauliai Air Base, where since 1st August, the fighter pilots of the Hungarian Defence Forces have been protecting the airspaces of Lithuania Estonia and Latvia in the framework of the Baltic Air Policing (BAP) mission, for four months.

V4 – Transformation Program 2022

Between 12–14 June, as a closing event of the Hungarian presidency of the Visegrád Cooperation, the event “V4 Innovation Challenge Day – Military Autonomous Systems” focusing on the challenges for autonomous driving was held at the Innovation Center of the University of Debrecen. Built by the Czech, Hungarian and Slovak teams, the electrically powered vehicles with autonomous self-driving capability demonstrated their capacities and speed in covering specific distances and executing tasks on a speedway and an obstacle course.

Forward defence must be established on the eastern flank

As Chair of the Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer (NLD N) is the principal military adviser to the Secretary General as well as provides military advice to the North Atlantic Council on behalf of the NATO Chiefs of Defence Staff. He also directs the Military Committee (NATO’s highest military authority), acts on its behalf and is the Committee’s spokesperson and representative. He started his assignment on 25 June 2021, and payed an official visit to Hungary in 8-9. March 2022.

Successful discussions in the United States

After their return home, they held a press conference to provide information about the results.
