Minister of Defence receives Spanish ambassador

On Tuesday, November 30 Defence Minister Dr. Tibor Benkő received in his office Spain’s ambassador to Budapest HE Ms. Anunciada Fernández de Córdova. Also present at the meeting was Colonel A. Escrigas Rodríguez, the new Spanish defence attaché accredited to Hungary.

At the meeting, the minister of defence said that in light of the increasingly unpredictable security situation in the world, cooperation with our allies in NATO and the EU is important, and Hungary is a reliable partner of Spain in this field. Furthermore, he pointed out that Hungary strives to cooperate and strengthen the bilateral relations along common interests.

Dr. Tibor Benkő stated that Hungary is open to expanding existing relations and continues to seek opportunities in the future for intensifying the mutually beneficial cooperation with Spain in the fields of defence policy and defence industry. Moreover, the minister of defence spoke highly of Spain’s contribution to the activity of the Székesfehérvár-based NATO Force Integration Unit Hungary (NFIU HUN).

Further topics on the agenda of the meeting included strengthening the security of the African region, about which Tibor Benkő said that in line with the objectives of the Hungarian government, Hungary intends to expand its role in strengthening the security of the African region through Hungarian military engagement in Task Force TAKUBA. The minister pointed out that “it is important that we give joint responses to joint challenges and share our experiences, so we are counting on operational-level cooperation with Spain and the exchange of the lessons learned as well”.
