Zoltán Lomnici Sr, Vice-President of the Association of Hungarian Recipients of the French Legion of Honor and National Order of Merit told us that although France and Hungary were not at war with each other in the Second World War, during the aerial bombing of Hungary, the German air force Luftwaffe shot down a plane above Herend, Veszprém County on which a French airman, Marcel Tilmont was also serving besides the British crew, and so he, too, was buried in Hungarian soil, in Solymár.

According to plans, the monument is to be put up in Mezőcsokonya, Somogy County, and is to be financed partly by Hungary, but mainly by France. In this regard, the public benefit French association for maintaining war memorials Le Souvenir français and the Association of Hungarian Recipients of the French Legion of Honor and National Order of Merit have signed an agreement.
