Hungarian Government Supports Sweden’s Accession to NATO

14:25 February 5, 2024

The Hungarian government supports the ratification of Sweden’s accession to NATO, which is why it submitted the proposal to the National Assembly – said Gergely Gulyás, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office at the Government Info in Budapest on 1 February.

Meanwhile, he added that it is important that the parliament votes on this issue when the required majority is available, but confidence-building measures should be taken first.

Gergely Gulyás underlined that the decision is in the hands of the pro-governmental groups and not that of the government. He said that by the Swedish accession, NATO would become stronger but as for the strength of the Alliance, it would not be a significant change.
