The computer-aided command post exercise (CAX-CPX) “STRONG BASTION 2023” will be held between 19–30 June this year. The main exercise objective is to carry out a Combat Readiness Evaluation (CREVAL) for the Hungary-based Headquarters Multinational Division Centre (HQ MND-C).

Led by the HDF General Staff Training Directorate, a planning team has been set up for the planning and conduct of the exercise, involving planners from the other two framework nations, Croatia and Slovakia. This team had already developed the concept of the exercise and the Master Scenario Events List (MSEL) in the previous year. In the course of the exercise, the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – ESP (NRDC-ESP) will carry out the tasks of the division-level Higher Control (HICON). During the execution of a task developed by the NRDC-ESP, the HQ MND-C will be evaluated in order to check whether it meets the requirements set by the NATO Combat Readiness Evaluation (CREVAL) process.

In the phase of the Crisis Response Planning, between 9–27 January the Valencia-based Spanish NRDC-ESP worked out the HICON’s operations order. During the work, a planning team – formed of the personnel of the HDF General Staff Training Directorate and the Military National Security Service Intelligence Directorate, and augmented with functional specialists of the HQ MND-C – made sure that the exercise scenario, the training objectives of the HQ MND-C and the operations order of the Spanish NRDC-ESP be sufficiently coherent and synchronized.
