Chief Warrant Officer Zoltán Kaszab

CSM Kaszab commenced his military service as a conscript soldier from 1991-1992. Following his 12 month obligatory service he enlisted at the 34. Bercsényi Miklós Long Range Reconnaissance Battalion at Szolnok, Hungary (later was renamed as 34. Bercsényi László LRRB).

Upon enlistment he was assigned at the Long Range Reconnaissance (LRRS) communication training company as instructor until 1995.

Following his instructor assignment CSM Kaszab was appointed LRRS team deputy team leader, later team leader.

Between 2004-2006 he was assigned as a Company 1st.SGT at the LRRS company where he served earlier.

Following the structural changes that formed his LRRS Battalion into a Special Forces Battalion CSM Kaszab was appointed as battalion Sergeant Major, and later Regimental Sergeant Major from 2007-2015.

Upon the establishment of the Hungarian Defence Forces Command CSM Kaszab was promoted to CSM of the Joint Special Operations Command.

CSM Kaszab recently is serving as the Command Sergeant Major of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

The Hungarian Defence Export Agency (VEX) was an active participant at the Milipol Asia-Pacific 2024 exhibition and trade fair, which was organized in Singapore in early April. Six Hungarian companies had the opportunity to introduce their products and services on the VEX stand to the visitors.

United for Peace

The activity of the Hungarian personnel in EUFOR finishing their tour of duty with the mission in April, was recently recognized at a medal parade in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo. The Common Security and Defence Policy Service Medal – which contains the Latin phrase “Pro pace unum”, meaning “United for Peace” – was first received by the soldiers serving in EUFOR in 2004.

EU Military Committee Chairman Holds Discussion in Hungary

The Chairman of the EU Military Committee (EUMC) held a discussion in Hungary on Thursday, 11 April. It was said at the press conference of the Ministry of Defence in Budapest that this visit can be regarded as the opening of the Hungarian EU presidency’s military program.

This year too, the MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) capability of the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina is being provided by the nation having the command of EUFOR Operation Althea, thus in 2024, by Hungary. Within this framework, the Hungarian personnel serving there guarantee air medical evacuation capabilities with the help of H145M helicopters, while air transport capabilities with a Mi-17 helicopter in Major General Dr. László Sticz’s year of command.

Civil-Military Cooperation in the Spotlight

Providing support for crisis management or general military exercises is rarely discussed, yet the role of background work is as significant as that of the spectacular tasks. The Hungarian Defence Forces organize it on a high level: every year our soldiers learn the basics of civil-military cooperation from select NATO experts. This year’s NATO Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Liaison Course is being conducted in Szentendre, Hungary between 8-12 April.

Hungarian Soldiers Participating in Saturday’s Rescue Receive Commander’s Recognition

Major General Dr. László Sticz, Commander of EUFOR Operation Althea, recently presented commander’s recognition coins in Camp Butmir, near Sarajevo to soldiers and civilian air traffic controllers participating in the early Saturday life-saving rescue operation. In the rescue operation, 14 Hungarian, two Dutch and two Italian soldiers carried out tasks directly, as well as an Austrian civilian. The two Italian soldiers will receive the commander’s recognition later.
